YouTuber and South Yorkshire farmer Joe Seels will host an annual competition to find the best Christmas tree in Britain.

The British Christmas Tree Growers Association (BCTGA) organises the annual competition for its 300 members, which will be hosted this year by Joe, a beef and arable farmer turned YouTuber whose channel amasses over one million views a month. 

The winner, who is chosen by the members, has the accolade of providing the Christmas tree for Downing Street and there will also be a winner who provides the wreath for No 10.

Headline sponsored by Agrii, the competition will be held on Thursday 9th October at Stoke Goldington Christmas Trees, Newport Pagnell, Milton Keynes.

Agrii harnesses intelligence for farmers to give the best agronomic advice.

As well as hosting the event, Joe will pick his favourite tree for a Celebrity Choice award and will distribute prizes to the winners. 

Joe said: “I’m really excited to be involved with the British Christmas Tree Growers Association this year. When we were kids, we used to sell Christmas trees from the farm. So, looking at all those Nordmann Firs and Norway Spruces will take me right back! 

“Nothing beats a real British tree at home, the smell, the sustainably and the knowledge that you’re supporting local business, and local wildlife that thrive there.”

The BCTGA, which was formed in 1980, is managed by the Yorkshire Agricultural Society (YAS).

BCTGA Chair Russell Parkins said: “We’re delighted to welcome Joe as the presenter of the BCTGA Awards 2025. His passion for farming and ability to connect with such a wide audience will bring real authenticity to the celebration of our sector. 

“These awards are a vital moment in the British Christmas tree growing calendar, shining a spotlight on the people and businesses who work hard all year round to grow the festive centrepieces for our homes. Our champions go on to provide the Christmas trees and wreath for Downing Street, which is a great opportunity to showcase our industry.”

The 2024 Champion Christmas Tree Grower of the Year was Evergreen Christmas Trees, Wales which provided the Christmas tree for Downing Street. The Runner Up was Cadeby Tree Trust, Warwickshire.

The winner of Champion Festive Wreath of the Year 2024 was Santa Trees, Cornwall and they provided the wreath for the door of the Prime Minister’s residence.
