Gardening start-up Dig sees tenfold turnover boost after Dragons’ Den debut

Just three months after impressing investors on Dragons’ Den, gardening lifestyle brand Dig has achieved remarkable national growth – including a tenfold increase in turnover in March 2025 compared to the same month last year.

Founded in Wiltshire in 2020, Dig is transforming how people garden with its flagship product: ‘Instant Beds’ – curated, ready-to-plant garden kits designed to make gardening easy, accessible and enjoyable for all experience levels.

Appearing on the BBC’s Dragons’ Den in February, co-founders Henry Bartlam and award-winning garden designer Alex Hollingsworth secured a £75,000 investment from Sara Davies in exchange for a 15% stake in the business.

The team capitalised on the show’s momentum, launching a pre-order campaign that brought in Dragons Denmore sales in three weeks than in the entire previous year. To meet nationwide demand, Dig has opened a new warehouse and fulfilment hub in Battersea, South West London, enabling scalable UK-wide delivery. The expansion has also generated new jobs locally and strengthened the company’s logistics capabilities significantly. Henry Bartlam said: “We’ve gone from packing boxes on a kitchen table to shipping thousands of plants a week. This has been a huge leap forward, and we’re just getting started.”

Each Instant Bed is delivered with plants, a colour-coded planting plan tailored to the customer’s space, and an easy-to-follow guide. The approach has resonated strongly with time-poor consumers and new gardeners who want results without the overwhelm.

Sara Davies, commenting on her investment, said: “There’s a whole generation of people who want to garden but don’t know where to start. Dig is showing them how – and doing it in a smart, scalable way.”

In addition to Instant Beds, Dig has recently launched a range of smaller plant collections, including themed kits such as “Shady Corner” and “Pollinator Magnet”, as well as packs for pots, planters, and balconies – helping the business tap into the growing demand for container gardening and urban-friendly solutions.

Next up is the launch of the Dig Club, a personalised gardening support platform offering real-time, tailored advice based on each customer’s garden and plants. The digital platform is set to launch in June and will further expand Dig’s offering into year-round support and customer engagement.

Alex Hollingsworth adds: “We’ve always believed that gardening should be joyful, creative and easy. The growth we’ve seen shows just how many people want to connect with their outdoor space – they just need the right tools.”
