Freckleface was founded in 2017 by mother and son duo, Tara & Noah, as a way to teach Noah what it takes to run a business. Despite being just 14 at the time, Noah had always been a little entrepreneur and Freckleface began at their kitchen table, making candles and wax melts as gifts for friends and family before moving on to local fairs.
In 2020, Tara & Noah opened the doors to their first high street store in historic Stamford, Lincolnshire - less than 12 miles from the Freckleface workshop where all of their products are lovingly handmade and where this exciting journey began.
It’s a real family affair, with mother and son still at the helm, joined by husband (and Dad!) Simon, nephew Will and a range of best friends who make Freckleface a genuine family business. Although you don’t have to have freckles to work there – it does help!
The Company started off knowing it wanted to be a business to be proud of – something to hand down the generations and be built around kindness. Products are as environmentally friendly as possible, with raw materials ethically, and where possible, locally sourced. All Freckleface products are vegan friendly and come with no plastic packaging.
Today, the business has grown to encompass 4 of their own retail stores, with the original store in Stamford joined by a second in Rose Cresent, Cambridge before hitting big city Leeds as part of the independent retailer haven of Queen’s Arcade.
The portfolio has recently expanded to cover the 4th store on the iconic Shambles in York, where the building boasts its own famous York Cat. Doors to the store opened in April, 2022 and Freckleface Co-Founder and MD Tara Carlile-Swift commented;
"We have had long held ambitions to open a shop in York, so when this incredible opportunity became available on Shambles, we knew we had to have it! One of our earliest market trader events was on Shambles Market so this store feels like a return to a second home. We are delighted that we also have one of the famous York Cats on our building and look forward to learning more about its history. Being a part of such an iconic retail community was the logical next step for Freckleface as we continue to expand our offering throughout the UK."
Despite its modest origin, Freckleface isn’t a well-kept secret. Over 550 stockists across the UK already showcase the Freckleface range of handmade, ethically sourced, vegan friendly products. Their biggest seller is the unique pick and mix soya wax melts where there are over 35 fragrances to choose from, all handmade and individually topped with botanicals to make them look as good as they smell.
It is this range that sees Freckleface top the No.1 best seller in gift and home fragrance for its stockists, and the Company has recently branched out to produce handmade bath and body products, starting with its range of botanical bath bombs.
What began on the kitchen table is now synonymous with luxury home fragrance and natural bath & body products...and watch this space as Freckleface branches out on its next big adventure later in the month!
