GIMA confirms two Knowledge Exchange Workshops for its autumn schedule

THE AUGUST Bank Holiday Weekend helped lift sales at garden centres across the country at the end of the month according to the Garden Centre Association’s (GCA) Barometer of Trade report.

200 years candles for Johnsons Lawn Seed

Johnsons Lawn Seed, the UK’s oldest seed brand with a prestigious track record of grass seed breeding and innovation, is getting ready to celebrate 200 years at the forefront of the lawn care business in 2020.

The company, now owned by Danish co-operative DLF Seeds, was founded in 1820, the year in which King George IV ascended to the throne. The story began when 17-year-old entrepreneur William Wade Johnson, a keen botanist, bought some land in Boston, Lincolnshire, and set up in business as a market gardener.

The Haskins reusable water bottles

Leading garden centre group, Haskins Garden Centres, has allocated all 600 team members with a reusable water bottles to help reduce single-use plastic in the overall business.

Head office has been looking further into the company’s recycling and waste policy in order to make small steps along the way to reduce its environmental footprint.

In order to kickstart an awareness campaign, Haskins chose to reduce the use of single-use water bottles and cups in the workplace and issued all staff with a refillable water bottle.
